Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, United States, Haida, ca. 1960s CE. A hand-carved red cedar paddle, intended for use in ceremonial dances, with an elaborately carved paddle and vibrant painted decorations. Engraved on one side of the paddle is an image of the "Raven that steals the sun", and on the opposite side is an abstract zoomorph with 3 eyes and massive teeth. The handle is painted with bright bands of color as well. Size: 48.75" L x 5.4" W x 1.125" H (123.8 cm x 13.7 cm x 2.9 cm)
