Description:

Native American, Pacific Northwest Coast, Haida peoples, ca. 1950 CE. A beautiful copper sheet covered wooden box with the copper sheet adorned by mesmerizing symbolic imagery in repousse on three of its sides as well as the lid. The separate lid fits the box perfectly, and the interior of the entire box, lid included, is lined with soft grey suede. The box is decorated with depictions of a bear on one side flanked by two images of salmon on its neighboring sides. The lid features a ring motif containing repeating zoomorphic visages. Copper was a traditional currency amongst the people of the Northwest Coast, traded in sheets like those attached to this box. Size: 4.75" L x 4.75" W x 4.5" H (12.1 cm x 12.1 cm x 11.4 cm)

  • Condition: Slight stains to interior. Minor indentations here and there, but really minor. Old collection labels on underside of lid and base. Copper has developed a nice warm age patina.
