Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Northern Greece, Classical Period, ca. 5th century BCE. A fine cast statue of a seated equestrian, made from tinned-bronze, with wide-spread legs as if riding a large horse. The figure holds perforated hands towards a slender waist, perhaps to symbolically hold the reigns of the mighty steed, and wears a flowing cape which billows from the figure's neck. The ovoid head displays impressed circular eyes, a flush nose, and a petite mouth beneath a simple riding helmet. Smooth, lustrous layers of robin's-egg-blue patina has formed across this minimalist yet impressive example of ancient Greek artistry. Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 1.375" W x 2.375" H (3.5 cm x 6 cm); 2.875" H (7.3 cm) on included custom stand.
