Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Ancient Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Nordic culture, Paleolithic to Neolithic Period, ca. 9000 to 4000 BCE. A knapped flint adze blade exhibiting black hues. The broad flake scarring creates sharpened edges along the peripheries and the rounded tip, and the interesting "hoof" shape of the blade stems from the manner and direction of the knapping strikes. Size: 7.5" L x 2.5" W (19 cm x 6.4 cm)

Cf. Therkel Mathiassen. "Old Stone Age", 1952, #60, pl. 60
