Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica, Nicoya, ca. 800 to 1350 CE. A wonderful pottery jar set on a trio of rattle legs with a high-relief lizard climbing up one side, all is adorned in elaborately painted abstract motifs in black and red atop an orange ground. Size: 6.8" L x 5.8" W x 6.6" H (17.3 cm x 14.7 cm x 16.8 cm)

Provenance: ex-private USA collection, acquired before 2000 from noted dealer Robert Anderson, Mason City, Iowa, USA; all items from this collection have been appraised by Marianne Huber in 2014

  • Condition: Two legs appear to missing interior rattle. Professionally repaired with restoration and repainting; all done very well and difficult to notice. Otherwise, great presentation with nice remaining pigments and detail. Rich earthen encrustations on interior.
