Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central America, Costa Rica, Nicoya region, ca. 200 to 600 CE. A hand-carved greenstone axe god pendant, so called because scholars believe these figures were carved from repurposes axe heads that were damaged or otherwise unable to be used. The abstract form features a broad face with petite eyes and a large mouth, slender arms placed atop the abdomen, and a chevron-motif column stretching from the hands to the mouth. Size: 0.4" L x 1.8" W x 5.2" H (1 cm x 4.6 cm x 13.2 cm); 5.625" H (14.3 cm) on included custom stand.
