Description:

Southeast Asia, Thailand, Ban Chiang, ca. 300 BCE. A distinctive bichrome pottery vessel of a spittoon shape that makes for an interesting silhouette. Its round-bottomed body resolves to a sharp shoulder which leads to a flared rim. The surface is beautifully detailed with meticulously impressed designs and a bichrome finish comprised of a register of russet red chevrons with a linear upper border at the mid-section and a register of stylized white ovoid forms segmented with red lines against a red band just beneath the rim. A lovely example from the ancients of Southeast Asia. Size: 8.75" at widest x 7.5" H (22.2 cm x 19 cm)
