Description:

Central Asia, Western Nepal / Northern India border, Rana Tharu culture, ca. mid-20th century CE. A beautiful and wearable kanthshri necklace made from nickel-brass with distinctive jasmine bud shaped beads suspended from convex beads with triangular terminal panels, all arranged on thick cotton fabric. The button clasp is made from a 1940 Anna coin, and a pair of polished Anna coins are added to both sides of the brass terminal panels. Tharu jewelry is primarily crafted from silver or silver-like materials, with influences from various cultures, including Middle Eastern, Indian, and Southeast Asian traditions. The kanthshri is a tighter collar length necklace, worn by the Rana Tharu group, a particularly striking style known for the spiky beads and coin ornamentation.
