East Asia, China, Neolithic period, Hongshan culture, ca. 4700 to 2900 BCE. An impressive stone carving of a stylized anthropomorphic figure, naturally adorned in warm hues of sinopia, persimmon, tan, and grey. Kneeling with both hands on his knees, the fascinating figure presents with an intriguing face or mask, featuring an egg-shaped head with thin-lipped frowning mouth, flat nose, almond-shaped eyes beneath arched eyebrows, and a tall forehead, all flanked by pointed ears. A bulbous buttocks and prominent sloped shoulders can be seen from the backside of this curious character. Size: 2.75" W x 4.75" H (7 cm x 12.1 cm)

  • Condition: Collection label on bottom. Chip to proper right ear. Some small nicks to front with one by proper left hand and another on left cheek. Expected surface wear with some lightly abraded areas throughout, commensurate with age. Otherwise, intact and excellent with lovely earthen deposits in recessed areas.
