The medallion has faint Greek lettering under the bust that is indiscernible, possibly a name. The intaglio pendant depicts Hercules wrestling with the 3-headed dog, Cerberus. In Classical mythology, Cerberus was the intimidating watchdog of the underworld, a monstrous creature possessing three heads.
