Description:

Western Europe, Neoclassical, ca. late 19th century CE. This is an interesting red quartz intaglio featuring a caboshed lion's face on a sword and set in a 57.06% (equivalent to 13k+) gold ring setting. The quartz is a dark red nearly black hue, enclosed in a form fitting bezel supported by broad shoulders that are incised with grooves. The lion is forward facing, with the sword planted pommel end into the ground, and the blade pointing vertically up. The ring shank tapers to a slightly rounded band that is intact and wearable. The iconography is similar to the jessant-de-lys, but the use of the sword is curious and very unique addition! Size (intaglio face): 0.58" L x 0.46" W (1.5 cm x 1.2 cm); (band opening): 0.70" W (1.8 cm); gold quality: 57.06% (equivalent to 13k+); weight: 7.9 grams; US ring size: 5.5
