Description:

Western Europe, Neoclassical period, ca. 19th century CE. A pretty gold fob set with a carnelian intaglio featuring the incised image of a bow and arrow crossed in front of a quiver - perhaps intended to represent Artemis (Roman Diana), the Greek goddess of the hunt, or perhaps they are Cupid's bow and arrow, a sign that one's love is strong and safe. The gold fob has 4 arms that meet at a suspension loop, allowing the piece to be worn as a pendant. Size of intaglio: 0.3" W x 0.4" H (0.8 cm x 1 cm); of fob: 0.5" L x 0.4" W x 0.8" H (1.3 cm x 1 cm x 2 cm); metal quality: 45% gold, 32% copper, 21% silver
