Western Europe, Neoclassical Period, ca. 19th century CE. An alluring brooch with an ovoid setting formed from 55.67% gold. The exterior of the setting is inlaid with 31 petite hemispherical pearls bearing opaque, glossy white hues, and 8 pairs of slender prongs hold a hand-carved black and gray agate cameo in place. Centered on the cameo is an opaque white bust of a left-facing woman who dons a flowing, hooded vestment that neatly frames her feminine visage. Size (setting): 1.12" W x 1.41" H (2.8 cm x 3.6 cm); (cameo): 0.82" W x 1.09" H (2.1 cm x 2.8 cm); (pearls): 0.1" Diameter each (0.3 cm); metal quality: 55.67% gold (equivalent to 12K+), 26.4% silver, 16.59% copper; weight: 20.3 grams

  • Condition: Wearable as shown. Cleanable tarnishing along verso, with very small nicks and petite areas of discoloration to white cameo portion, otherwise intact and very good. Nice patina throughout. Pin still articulates smoothly on hinge. Pin sticks out just slightly from side of setting, so please use caution when handling.
