European, Neoclassical, 18th to 19th century. A very fine enameled Neoclassical profile visage laid on a ruby red bone ground. While rendered with enamel rather than carved shell, the piece boasts cameo-like qualities. A beautiful little treasure, mounted behind glass with a lavish gilded brass bezel surrounding the image in an attractive wood mount embellished with a rich black pigment. Size (artwork): 1.625" L x 1.25" W (4.1 cm x 3.2 cm) Size (frame): 4.75" L x 4.125" W (12.1 cm x 10.5 cm)

Provenance: private Rancho Mirage, California, USA collection, by inheritance in 2020; ex-Dr. TDR Berreth, California, USA, acquired before 1982
