Description:

Western Europe, Neoclassical Period, ca. late 18th to 19th century CE. A finely preserved carnelian intaglio of an ovoid form depicting a nude male seated upon a stool. The man bends his left leg slightly back to support the lyre in his lap and stares forward with eyes hidden beneath bushy brows and a puffy coiffure. A vertically inscribed Greek name reads "Admon," perhaps as an identification of the figure. Beveled edges course around the verso and enable it to fit snugly within a bezel. Size: 0.7" W x 0.875" H (1.8 cm x 2.2 cm)
