Description:

Europe, Neoclassical, ca. late 18th to early 19th century CE. A fabulous hair pin top carved from the bone of an ungulate in the form of a standing male figure, possibly the Roman god Saturn (Greek Cronus) or Jupiter (Greek Zeus), shown bare-chested with a veil tied at his waist, covering his legs. His arms hang from square shoulders beside his strong chest as his left hand grasps his clothing and his right elbow rests on a pillar behind him. Topped with a flat cap atop luscious locks of hair, the figure's ancient visage presents deep-set eyes, a straight nose, a petite mouth, and a thick beard and moustache. Size: 0.625" W x 2" H (1.6 cm x 5.1 cm)
