Description:

Western Europe, Neoclassical, ca. 19th century CE. This is a lovely agate intaglio that is hand carved with the personification of Hope as a young woman. She leans against a large anchor and stands upon a groundline, garbed in classical robes and one hand raised as if gesturing to wait. The ovoid stone is a lovely shade of peach pink with dark banding and white striations on the verso. The backside is faceted and tapers to an elongated octagonal culet back with a small hand drilled depression for anchoring this agate into a setting as a ring or brooch. A lovely allegorical scene that could be perfect for a jeweler to incorporate into a jewelry setting or to display as is. Size: 0.74" L x 0.37" W x 0.89" H (1.9 cm x 0.9 cm x 2.3 cm)
