Description:

Europe, ca. 19th century CE. A stunning, hand-carved agate intaglio presenting two opposite facing profiles - the one on the left depicting a bearded male, the one on the right a young female - perhaps intended to represent a married couple. The intaglio is set in a modern 12 karat gold bezel with a long gold stick pin for fastening to clothing. The stone is inherently beautiful, possessing marvelous translucency and rich hues - caramel gold on the side depicting the female, chocolate brown on the side depicting the male, and a slender colorless sliver between the two. A simply marvelous composition! Size: intaglio measures .625" W x .875" H (1.6 cm x 2.2 cm); .8" W x 1.125" H (2 cm x 2.9 cm) with gold setting; pin is 2.375" L (6 cm); weight: 4.2 grams
