Near East, Mesopotamia, Neo-Assyrian / Neo-Babylonian, ca. 9th to 6th century BCE. This is a beautiful seal carved from a pale lilac hued chalcedony stone that is semi-translucent. Depicting a highly abstract cultic or worshiper scene on the flat face in a linear and stippled manner; a figure seated - maybe on an altar or throne- with a X shaped before him - perhaps a star. The stone is pierced through the center for suspension, perhaps to wear as a pendant or on a belt Size: 0.85" L x 0.75" W (2.2 cm x 1.9 cm)
