Native American, Southeastern to Midwestern United States, Mississippian culture, ca. 1000 to 1500 CE. A wearable necklace strung with dozens of petite seed-form beads, thick tubular beads, and oblong beads, all carved from white marine mollusk shell. The beads present with white, yellow, cream, tan, beige, khaki, and light coffee hues that dazzle the eye, especially when the beads are moving back and forth on one's neck. Size (necklace): 31.5" L (80 cm); (largest bead): 0.89" L x 0.41" W (2.3 cm x 1 cm)

Provenance: private Fayetteville, Arkansas, USA collection; ex-Dr. David Harner collection, Springdale, Arkansas, USA, acquired between the 1950s and 1960s
