Description:

Pre-Columbian, Panama, ca. 8th to 10th century CE. A STUNNING necklace featuring a finely cast high quality gold (95% gold or equivalent to 22K+) shaman pendant from the ancients of Panama strung with dozens and dozens of cut modern emeralds. Ancient societies of Central America used gold adornment to symbolize power and honor in both life and death. Gold was so highly regarded that leaders were buried surrounded by goldworks. The shaman stands with outspread legs and extended arms, holding staffs with bird head finials in his hands, nude save a belt around his waist. His dramatic visage, featuring coffee bean shaped eyes, a prominent nose, and a wide full-lipped mouth, is crowned by a spiral-curled headdress. A fabulous piece of wearable art! Size: pendant is 1.375" H (3.5 cm); emerald strand is 20" L (50.8 cm)
