Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Olmec and Maya cultures, ca. 500 BCE to 950 CE. A fine collection of 36 ancient hand pecked and polished jadeite and omphacite jade beads strung on a modern cord as an incredible necklace. The beads are arranged in a graduating order with a massive pendant bead at the center, and all are a spherical shape. The jade stones boast rich hues of mottled forest greens and lighter brown hues. While strung in modern times, the cord should be replaced with a sturdier wire if one intends to wear this piece, the beads are also perfect for restringing as one desires! Size of largest bead: 2.15" Diameter x 1.46" W (5.5 cm x 3.7 cm); strand doubled: 32" L (81.3 cm); weight: 1360 grams

Provenance: ex-Marc Amiguet Schmitt estate, Amiguet's Ancient Art, Evansville, Indiana, USA, acquired prior to January 1, 2010
