Description:

Near East, Northern Syria / Southern Anatolia Syro-Hittite, ca. 1180-700 BCE. Rare and adorable terracotta figure representing a ram (or possibly horse) with a highly stylized body.  The short stubby legs and snout-like mouth make for quite an abstract depiction. Being great horsemen allowed the ancestors of the Syro-Hittites to travel and conquer places far from their remote and rugged homelands in Asia Minor. Size:  2-1/2"L x 1-1/2"W. Provenance:  J. Edwards private collection, Ventura, CA, passed to her from parents who while en route to visit daughter's archaeological dig on Israeli Coast just north of Caesarea, visited Jericho and purchased this piece in August, 1968 All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. #101610
