Description:

Roman, ca. 1st century CE. This is a beautiful small cobalt blue glass jar that would have been made to hold precious things like kohl or other cosmetics. The foot and sides are scalloped, giving an undulating appearance; the lip is flared and slightly thickened. The color and the combined encrustations and iridescence are very pretty. This one stands out from many of the examples of Roman glass that we see by its color, its design, and its delicacy. Size: 2" W x 1.9" H (5.1 cm x 4.8 cm)

Provenance: Ex-private American collection, acquired in 1985.
