Description:

Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A fine cast-bronze oil lamp with a rounded central body, protruding shoulder tabs, and a pair of projecting wick spouts, all atop a circular base with concentric rings incised underneath. The central fill hole has a recessed rim meant to hold a lid, and a pair of pierced tabs enable the lamp to be suspended with a rope or thin chain. Lustrous layers of green and brown patina cover the vessel and imbue it with an elegant presentation evocative of ancient Rome. Size: 3.8" L x 1.5" W x 1.375" H (9.7 cm x 3.8 cm x 3.5 cm).

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection; ex-William Froelich collection, New York, USA, acquired in the 1970s
