Native American, North America, southern Arizona, Hohokam culture, ca. 150 CE - 1100 CE. The Hohokam peoples excelled in the art of ceramics. Using distinct firing techniques and paints they created bowls, jars, and scoops of intriguing styles and hues. Hohokam pottery was created via the paddle-and-anvil technique. Decoration typically consisted of red geometric designs, either banded or allover patterns of small repeated motifs against a buff ground as we see in this example. 4-1/2"D x 3-1/4"H Provenance: Ex-private Scottsdale, AZ Collection found on private land in the 1940s.
