Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Native American, Southwestern United States, Arizona, Anasazi (Ancestral Puebloan), Chaco and Cibola, Chaco-Cibola White Ware, Chaco Black-on-White type, ca. 1075 to 1150 CE. A lovely pottery jar, skillfully hand-painted in the tradition of Chaco Black-on-White. Two horizontal bands of castellation encompass the cylindrical neck, as petite dashes line the slightly flared rim, and a thick row of hachured and black-filled geometric patterns encircles the bulbous body. The round yet stable base is left a creamy white slip, as is the sloped shoulder and interior of the vessel. The presence of Chaco black-on-white ware is sometimes characterized as an indicator of Chaco identity and, thus, the ware is occasionally accorded enhanced significance as the products of highly skilled specialists who produced vessels mainly for the Chaco elite. Size: 4.1" Diameter x 3.25" H (10.4 cm x 8.3 cm)
