Description:

East Asia, China, Eastern Zhou Dynasty, ca. 5th to 4th century BCE. A miniature leaded-bronze vessel known as a ding resting on three hollow legs and upright handles on the rim. The exterior of the round body is low-relief cast with abstract taotie faces. Dings were ritualistic cauldrons for preparing food during ceremonies to honor ancestors and were often buried with the deceased. The small size of this example suggests it was for burial only. Size: 3.25" Diameter x 4.6" H (8.3 cm x 11.7 cm)
