Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chavin, ca. 900 to 200 BCE. An interesting abstract anthropomorphic "early man" idol figurine of a near-miniature size, hand-carved from mottled forest-green stone with beige inclusions. The figure stands atop delineated legs and has a wide torso with an incised waist line, holds both arms tightly against the chest, and has a string-cut striation denoting the neck line. The rectangular head boasts drilled eyes beneath T-shaped brows and a slender nose. An integral protrusion on the figure's back perhaps represents a small child or a traveling pack and has a small piercing for suspension. Custom museum-quality display stand included. Size: 0.875" W x 2.125" H (2.2 cm x 5.4 cm); 4" H (10.2 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany
