Description:

**First Time At Auction**

Near East, Byzantine Empire, ca. 5th to 6th century CE. A small mold-made pottery vessel with an acutely-angled base encircling the outer edge, an canteen-shaped body, short tubular neck and a rolled rim. The central motif on both sides displays the timeless duality between fire (from the raised sun with multi-directional rays) and water (from the cresting wave pattern encircling the sun), and are only separated be a single thin raised circle. Additional circular patterns of dots and arrow-shaped designs adorn the outer edge of the vessel. Size: 2.5" L x 1.5" W x 3.125" H (6.4 cm x 3.8 cm x 7.9 cm).
