Description:

Ancient Near East/Central Asia, Sasanian (Sassanian/Sasanid) Empire, ca. 2nd to 7th century CE. An agate stone stamp with an intriguing scene on the seal face and the body pierced through for suspension. Two figures face each other under a crescent moon - one appears to have wings - perhaps representing a Faravahar or some other Zoroastrian deity or leader. The beige and citrine-hued banded agate is a desirable stone for such seals and durable to withstand use and age- as exemplified here! Size: 0.875" L x 0.65" W (2.2 cm x 1.7 cm)

Provenance: East Coast collection, New York Gallery, New York City, New York, USA, acquired before 2010
