Ancient Near East, Eastern Mediterranean, ca. 2nd century BCE to 1st century CE. A hand-carved hematite stamp seal of octagonal form with a lengthy suspension hole drilled through the middle. One face is decorated with a column of inscribed cuneiform glyphs while the remaining faces each show an single standing figure, perhaps a deity or a member of royalty. This was made by an ancient artist to resemble earlier Babylonian stamp seals. Size: 0.46" L x 0.43" W x 0.86" H (1.2 cm x 1.1 cm x 2.2 cm)

This piece comes with a typewritten description and evaluation signed by distinguished Professor Wilfred G. Lambert, Fellow of the British Academy (FBA) in Assyriology and Near Eastern Archaeology.
