Egypt, Late Dynastic Period, 26th to 31st Dynasty, ca. 664 to 332 BCE; Ancient Near East / Central Asia, Persia, Parthian to Sassanian Empire, ca. 200 BCE to 600 CE. A collection of 5 ancient carnelian seal beads and faience animal beads. First is a miniature carnelian seal showing a bearded man in profile, the other heispherical carnelian has linear markings that may be a bird, and the last has a zebu bull. One faience bead is a charming lion and the other is a cute recumbent bull. All pieces are pierced for suspension and could be restrung as one desired as pendants. Lions and bulls were both symbols of strength and power in Near Eastern and Egyptian art, worn as protective charms and talismans to ward again evil and promote fortune. Size of faience bull: 0.65" L x 0.27" W x 0.39" H (1.7 cm x 0.7 cm x 1 cm)
