Ancient Near East / Central Asia, northwestern Iran and eastern Turkey, Amlash culture, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A lovely hand-built terracotta horse of minimalist form, displaying a petite body supported by thick, tapered legs. The ancient animal presents a stylized head with perky ears and a pointed snout, all capped by a neatly manicured mane that projects upwards. The torso of a rider with a pinched nose and a flat headdress is shown on the horse's back. Size: 3" L x 1.25" W x 4.25" H (7.6 cm x 3.2 cm x 10.8 cm)

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection, acquired 1990s
