Description:

Roman Empire, ca. 1st to 2nd century CE. Lovely and delicate bronze oil lamp. Cast bronze lamp with ridged finger ring handle protected by an unusual forked fan on each side of the handle, sea-shell shaped lid over the filling hole, long thin spout with flared wick opening, sitting on short raised foot. Lamps such as these would have been reserved for the wealthy as bronze was a valuable commodity. Size: 4.875" L x 1.875" H (12.4 cm x 4.8 cm); 4.125" H (10.5 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Zaveloff collection, Lakewood, New Jersey, USA, acquired from Venus Gallery, Israel, in 2002
