Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Incan Empire, ca. 1200 to 1520 CE. A beautiful textile coca cloth comprised of tightly-woven camelid (alpaca or llama) fibers in hues of crimson, maroon, umber, teal, and cream. The main body consists of two rectangular panels separated by three segmented vertical bars of serpentine-style designs which alternate in color between red-on-white and white-on-red. The longer fringe sections have an undulating, teal-hued pattern which flows into the extended lateral strands. Used to transport coca beans, this is a fabulous example from ancient Peru! Size: 16" W x 15.25" H (40.6 cm x 38.7 cm).
