Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 200 to 400 CE. A tall, hand-carved wooden loom stick with a thick, tapering body, a pointed tip, and a stylized anthropomorphic monkey figure on top. The amusing simian presents crouching atop a small rectangular platform with bent legs, a bulbous body with a curved back, a sinuous tail, and a globular head. Loom sticks aided in evenly spacing and tightening the many thread strands used to make textiles. Size: 2.25" W x 15.7" H (5.7 cm x 39.9 cm); 16.25" H (41.3 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, collected from 1950-1960s
