Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 250 BCE to 125 CE. A slightly round-bottomed bowl with concave sides rising to the outward flaring mouth, the exterior walls decorated with six birds, possibly forest birds with round eyes and curved beaks, each slip painted in chocolate brown, white and cream against a red ground. While the color combinations are similar for all six birds, there are slight variations in beak sizes and other details. The bodies of the birds have what appears to be an abstract frontal face but may simply be abstract renderings of bird feathers or avian anatomy. Size: 7" (17.8 cm) in diameter x 3" (7.6 cm). Provenance: Ex-private Crested Butte, CO collection, acquired in 1987. All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back. A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids. #108663
