Description:

Pre-Columbian, Peru, Nazca culture, ca. 200 BCE to 300 CE. A lovely olla displaying a bulbous body with a rounded base, a sloped shoulder, and a narrow mouth, skillfully hand-painted in hues of burnt orange, maroon, bluish gray, cream, and black. A band of repeated abstract beings flow around the upper body, below the unpronounced rim. This style of painting corresponds to later Nazca periods, when supernatural figures became the center of the artists' attention and their more fantastical elements - here 4 figures with enormous zoomorphic masks, snail-like tails, and long, dagger-like tongues - are exaggerated. The black outlines filled with bright, warm colors are classically Nazca. Size: 5.9" Diameter x 4.2" H (15 cm x 10.7 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full printed and bound report is available to the buyer upon request.
