Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 0to 600 CE. Polychrome pottery jar painted with a human head with nose in high relief having a high collar rim. The olla depicts a stylized human head with a fancifully coiffed moustache. The collar is elaborately decorated with three reclining or floating stylized human (probably warrior) figures and a repeated step motif just under the rim. All is hand painted in shades of red, chocolate brown, tawny beige, and white. Size: 6-1/2"H x 6-1/2" in diameter at widest. Provenance: Ex-private R. Pearson collection, Denver, CO, acquired from Arte Primitivo; Ex-private Danish collection, acquired in the 1970s.
