Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 125 to 250 CE. A round-bottomed anthropomorphic effigy pottery jar depicting a fierce and apparently victorious warrior figure holding a trophy head in one hand and a weapon in the other, hand-painted in a polychrome color scheme of red, brown, tan, orange, black, and white hues. The lively visage features a modeled nose, ears, and striped ornaments with boldly delineated facial features and mask or tattoos. He dons a fanciful tunic with a ridged collar and base trim. A special example of Nazca pottery, instantly recognizable as Nazca for its bold lines and wide range of strong colors. Size: 5.375" W x 7" H (13.7 cm x 17.8 cm)
