Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 100 to 300 CE. A wheel-thrown pottery vessel with a round but stable base, a squat lower body, flared upper walls, and a thin rim that surrounds the wide, orange-slipped basin. Atop the white ground exterior are a pair of highly abstract flying shamans with serpentine bodies, feathered peripheries, expressive faces with protruding tongues, and broad tails adorned with trophy heads, all presented in hues of crimson, wheat, dark grey, and citrine. Size: 4.5" W x 3.125" H (11.4 cm x 7.9 cm)
