Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 100 to 600 CE. A hollow-built pottery vessel with an ovoid body, a round but stable base, and a wide strap handle arching between a pair of projecting conical spouts. The highly burnished surfaces depict a two-headed mythical being of an abstract serpentine form bearing fourteen protruding tab-shaped 'legs,' pointed serrations, and more than a dozen trophy heads in grey, red, and citrine hues. An intriguing example from ancient Peru! Size: 9" L x 3.8" W x 4.2" H (22.9 cm x 9.7 cm x 10.7 cm)

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany
