Description:

Pre-Columbian, Southern Peru, Nazca, Ca. 200 to 600 CE. A large, polychrome bridge-spout, round-bottomed vessel decorated in the form of a fisherman with a modeled face emerging from the front, the visage comprised of wide, open eyes, arching brows, a horizontal, full-lipped smile, and ruddy circular cheeks, all topped by a netted cap over his protruding coiffure. He holds a fisherman's net in both hands that wraps around his body which is whimsically spread over the upper portion of the vessel with hands delineated in front and feet behind. A marvelous example painted in a fine, geometric style in a stunning combination of red, cream, orange, and chocolate-brown hues from the ancient Nazca culture of South Coast Peru. Size: 6" in diameter x 6.75" H (15.2 cm x 17.1 cm)
