Description:

**Originally Listed At $650**

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 100 to 300 CE. A hand-built pottery vessel of a round-bottomed form with a spherical body and a rounded shoulder that tapers to a petite mouth. The highly burnished exterior is covered with a pale orange slip around the lower body and midsection, and a thick brown stripe separates the bottom from a cream-hued register above. A pair of highly abstract Bloody Mouth deities flow around the shoulder with ovoid eyes, serpentine hair, and gaping maws devouring abstract renderings of sacrificial blood drops. A pierced suspension loop protrudes from the shoulder and separates the two voracious deities. Size: 7.375" W x 5.125" H (18.7 cm x 13 cm)

Provenance: ex-private Hans Juergen Westermann collection, Germany, collection between 1950s and 1960s
