Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A well-crafted figural stirrup vessel depicting an animated fisherman laying atop a large net with fish contained inside. The fisherman is creatively portrayed tying both ends of the net with stylized hands, a staple of Nazca iconography. His eyes are wide elliptical forms with thick dark mascara around them and are accented by a veristic protruded nose and a pouted circular mouth opening. Cream and dark brown pigment accentuate his face, while his body is a deep russet red. The rounded base is ochre yellow delineated by a russet red and a narrow black border line which encircles the vessel entirely. A modest bichrome strap-handle and spout are present on verso. What a catch! Size: 7.25" W x 8.25" H (18.4 cm x 21 cm)
