Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 2nd to 4th century CE. A well-crafted figural stirrup vessel depicting an animated fisherman laying atop a large net without any fish contained inside. The fisherman is creatively portrayed tying both ends of the net with stylized hands, a staple of Nazca iconography. His eyes are wide elliptical forms with thick dark mascara around them and are accented by a veristic protruded nose and a pouted circular mouth opening. Light brown and gray pigment accentuate his face while his body is a deep russet red. Size: 4.375" L x 4.25" W x 6.25" H (11.1 cm x 10.8 cm x 15.9 cm)

Provenance: private Hawaii, USA collection; ex-Colin Arundel collection, Los Angeles, California, USA, thence by descent to family
