Pre-Columbian, Southern Peru, Nazca, ca. 200 to 400 CE. A large, expressive section of a fine terracotta portrait vessel featuring bold facial features. Notice those smiling lips and carefully lined, lidded eyes. Once the jar was fired, the indigenous artist hand-burnished it bestowing it with a rich surface texture and shine. Custom, museum-quality stand. Size: 4.75" L x 3" W x 4" H (12.1 cm x 7.6 cm x 10.2 cm)
