Pre-Columbian, South Coast of Peru, Nazca, ca. 200 to 500 CE. A hand-built pottery cup depicting an elaborate and abstract insect on each half. The round-bottomed vessel sits relatively stable on its own and features broad walls and a thin rim. The white-ground exterior surface is decorated with perhaps a wasp or mosquito with intriguing, human-like limbs and a lengthy needle-form stinger. Size: 5" L x 5.1" W x 4" H (12.7 cm x 13 cm x 10.2 cm)
