Description:

Pre-Columbian, South Coast Peru, Nazca, ca. 100 to 500 CE. A hand-built polychrome earthenware bowl with dramatically flared walls, finely painted with a lower register of several joyous faces topped by an upper register that likely represents their shared headdress adorned with abstract curvilinear motifs. All is delineated in a vibrant palette of red, orange, black, and cream hues upon the outer walls. The visages are quite expressive with their wide-open eyes, arched brows, and infectious smiles.
